Suspect Apprehended In Waller County

On Monday at 5:03 PM, NCSO deputies were dispatched to Bonner Avenue in Angus in reference to a reported shooting. 

When deputies arrived, they identified an adult male, Phil Clark with a gunshot wound to the head.  Clark, 82, was transported to Navarro Regional Hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries. 

During the investigation, Deputies with the assistance of the Richland Police Department, deputies identified the shooting suspect as Michael Preston Edwards.  Edwards, 20, fled the scene in a 2012 red Nissan Altima prior to arrival of the deputies.   After learning the location of the suspect, NCSO deputies notified a DPS Texas Ranger in the Houston area. 

NCSO Chief Deputy Morris Steward stated in a press release issued on Monday morning, “Subsequently the suspect was located and arrested in Hempstead, Texas in Waller County, with a murder warrant issued out of Navarro County.”

Chief Steward continued, “The Navarro County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank and acknowledge the DPS Texas Ranger unit, Hempstead PD, and the Waller County Sheriff’s Office for the apprehension of the suspect.   Michael Preston Edwards was arraigned in Waller County and will be transported back to the Navarro County Justice Center.”

This case is still under investigation.  More details will be provided as they become available.
