Corsicana Movie Makes Headlines After Red Carpet Premiere in Houston Area

By Kris Smith

Last weekend, a Red Carpet Event was held in the Houston area releasing the long awaited Corsicana movie.
Penned by Corsicana’s own Police Chief Robert Johnson in only 3 days, the movie is set in the late 1800’s honoring the service and dedication of Bass Reeves. A film two and a half years in the making, Corsicana has surpassed the idea Johnson had for the project.

In his directorial debut, the iconic actor, Isaiah Washington, well-known for his role in Grey’s Anatomy as Dr. Preston Burke, signed on to the film in hopes of bringing the film straight to the public.
The character, Bass Reeves, was a slave born in Arkansas who escaped to the Oklahoma territory where he began his life as a lawman in an essentially lawless land, with more than 3,000 felony arrests. The life story of Reeves, the first African American United States Marshal, is chronicled in several gun shoot outs and the reunion with former partner Sam Tanner.

Filmed in it’s entirety in Corsicana and Navarro County, the film has a host of local faces including Collin Street Bakery’s own Bob McNutt, including a performance by Johnson and Jeff and Mark Robinson. The film was co-produced by Amber McNutt and Robert Johnson.
The limited release of the film will come to Corsicana’s Schulman Theater on September 9th.
