On January 24th, Navarro County Commissioner’s Court will make the final decision on the tax abatements requested by the companies heading up the projects. A wind farm project is planned for construction south of Dawson, and two solar farm projects are being considered for the Kerens area.
Dawson ISD is set to benefit $1.9 million and Kerens ISD should benefit roughly $4 Million.
The Road and Bridge and ESD tax revenues is not included in the proposed abatement.
During the past few months, the county seems divided regarding the decision of tax abatements. Navarro County Economic Development Coordinator, John Boswell, has appeared in commissioner’s court to help facilitate the agreement on the tax abatements.
The parcels of property lined out for the projects have already been rezoned by Commissioners from Agriculture to Commercial property. This rezone will bring tax dollars that were not seen before by the county tax rolls.
A decision will likely be made regarding the tax abatements at the January 24th meeting.
