Most Navarro County residents will remember the massive power failure of February 2021 that left thousands of people without electricity or clean running water for days. Steps have now been taken by local government bodies to ensure plans are put in place just in case such a catastrophic failure should happen again.
Blooming Grove City council voted the evening of August 5th to adopt the 2024 Navarro County Hazard Mitigation Plan which covers a wide array of possible disasters from floods to lightning strikes to earthquakes. The Hazard Mitigation Plan assesses risks for each of these possible disasters as well as past damages and procedures for how to respond should such hazards arise. The 2024 Hazard Mitigation Plan implements the acquiring of generators for water and sewage plants so citizens would still have clean, running water should another mass power failure occur. As of now, the Hazard Mitigation Plan that can be found on the City of Corsicana website has not yet been updated from its previous version set forth in 2015, so it is unclear what other plans are being made in response to recent issues.
Other talking points included a vote to extend school zone times to end at 4:30PM, extending the traffic slowdown for the safer pick-up of school children and Community Garage sale dates were set to October 4th and 5th to coincide with the City of Frostโs October 6th date.
