Threats against multiple school districts across the state this week have been deemed to be a hoax, per a release from a state law enforcement agency Tuesday evening. Corsicana ISD was among school districts in North Texas targeted, according to district law enforcement.
The district became aware last evening, and the threat was deemed a hoax soon after. Threats were posted over multiple days. CISD was among the threats that came out Tuesday evening, district law enforcement said.
The hoax referenced a “school shooting” list. Per the state agency, the hoax may have originated in South Texas, and an arrest was made.
“We live in troubling times, and we must remain vigilant in taking each threat seriously,” said Stephanie Howell, Corsicana ISD Superintendent. “Unfortunately, this type of behavior is likely to continue as school-aged children often do not understand the level of seriousness. Being funny and wanting to prank your peers can lead to serious consequences, and at CISD we are going to continue to react swiftly and seek the fullest punishment allowable by law.
“The safety of our students and our staff will always come first.”
After the school shooting in Georgia last week, copycat incidents remain likely, the state agency’s release stated.
