During the announcements portion at the end of Monday Nightโ€™s meeting, Corsicana city councilman Will Jones officially issued his immediate resignation.

Jones stated, โ€œThis decision comes after deep reflection after events that transpired since my swearing in, in 2024. I can no longer serve, in good conscience, under current conditions, and I submit this resignation as a matter of personal and civic protest. Itโ€™s an honor to serve the citizens of Corsicana.โ€

The resignation was accepted by all remaining council members and Mayor Joe Hill.

โ€œWe appreciate the contributions and service of Councilman Jones; we wish him the best in his future endeavorsโ€ said Corsicana City Manager Jim Holgersson.

Praise from the city council members and City Staff followed Jonesโ€™s officially notifying the council of his decision to resign, effective immediately.

Precinct 2 Councilwoman Shayla Johnson said, โ€œWill served his precinct well, Iโ€™m really going to miss him.โ€

Corsicana City Council will need to appoint a replacement for Jones in the coming weeks, as it is more than 60 days until the next municipal election, according to City Attorney Kerri Donica.
