On Thursday evening, the Corsicana Police Department received a 911 call from a victim reporting that her vehicle had just been stolen. While officers were en route to the initial call, a second 911 caller reported that he was following the stolen vehicle northbound on Interstate 45. The caller recognized the vehicle after seeing a Facebook post regarding the earlier theft.
Under the direction of Sgt. Michael Brooks, Corsicana Police Department officers coordinated with dispatch and surrounding agencies to locate the vehicle. The Navarro County Sheriff’s Office, Ellis County agencies, Ennis Police Department, Rice Police Department, and Alma Police Department were notified and assisted in the response.
The stolen vehicle was located on Interstate 45, where officers with Rice PD and Alma PD attempted a traffic stop. The vehicle fled, and during the pursuit, one of the occupants threw a 9mm pistol from the window, which was later recovered. Rice and Alma units initiated a pursuit, with Corsicana units following to provide additional support.
Corsicana officers deployed a tire deflation device, which was initially unsuccessful. A second tire deflation device was deployed by another Corsicana PD officer near the intersection of North 7th Street and East 1st Avenue, successfully disabling one tire and slowing the vehicle. Despite the damage, the suspect vehicle continued southbound.
During the pursuit, one suspect exited the moving vehicle near the intersection of North 7th Street and East 3rd Avenue. Officers from Alma PD and Corsicana PD immediately stopped to render aid and requested emergency medical services. The stolen vehicle continued traveling until it came to a stop near the intersection of Oak Grove Road and North 7th Street, where Rice PD, with assistance from Corsicana PD, conducted a felony stop. The driver was taken into custody without incident.
A 17-year-old suspect was transported to the Navarro County Jail, where he is awaiting arraignment and faces a charge of Evading Arrest or Detention Causing Serious Bodily Injury. A 20-year-old suspect was transported to a Dallas-area hospital, where he remains in critical condition.
This incident remains under investigation, and additional charges are expected.
The Corsicana Police Department would like to thank the Rice Police Department, Alma Police Department, and all assisting agencies for their teamwork and cooperation in bringing this incident to a safe conclusion.
