According to a press release issued by Chief Robert Johnson, during the initial attempt to stop the vehicle, the driver—who was the sole occupant—threw a bag from the vehicle before continuing a short distance and eventually coming to a stop in the 500 block of Edgewood. Officers detained the driver and were able to recover the discarded bag nearby.
Upon inspection, officers discovered nearly 139 grams of cocaine inside the bag. The driver was taken into custody at the scene and transported to the Navarro County Jail.
The suspect, identified as Dedrick Montrell Carter, was booked on a charge of Manufacture or Delivery of a Controlled Substance, Penalty Group 1, in an amount over four grams but under 200 grams. Under Texas law, this offense is classified as a first-degree felony.
Carter remains in custody at the Navarro County Justice Center and is awaiting arraignment.
