By Hannah Barber,

The Kerens City Council convened on July 8, 2025, to discuss several important issues affecting the community. Among the key topics were a mobile home permit application, the installation of a new community bulletin board, and the reappointment of municipal officials.

A significant portion of the meeting was dedicated to reviewing a proposed specific use permit for a mobile home situated on Kerens OT Block 123, Lots N ยฝ of 1 & 2, at 201 SW 6th Street. The application drew community attention, with City Hall receiving four phone calls and one letter expressing opposition. During the discussion, concerns were raised about a sewer line running directly beneath the property, which would require relocation before the permit could be considered. To thoroughly address this issue, the council decided to postpone a decision until their next meeting, allowing time to examine the land deed and investigate the sewer line situation further.

The council also officially recognized the installation of a new community bulletin board at Kerens City Park. Although put in on July 4, 2025, the bulletin board was approved during the session. This addition aims to enhance communication within the community by providing a centralized location for notices and local information, reflecting the cityโ€™s ongoing efforts to improve community engagement and infrastructure.

In addition to these matters, the council reaffirmed its leadership team by reappointing several key municipal officials. Katherine Combs was reappointed as city secretary, Roy Ivey as chief of police, and Jackie Freeland as municipal judge. These reappointments ensure continuity and stability within the cityโ€™s administration and law enforcement agencies.
