Read Time:32 Second

Stephen F. Austin was the third (referred at times as the Third Ward) public school built in the late 19th to early 20th century, as the CISD was rapidly expanding as more families were moving to Corsicana during that time frame, and the need to accommodate the influx of students was of great necessary.

Eight years ago, Navarro County Commissioners voted 3-1 to demolish the building as the cost of restoration or repair would cost nearly $1 million dollars. Last week, crews located asbestos in the windows and walls of the structure, delaying the inevitable.
