Last week, Navarro College was hit with a civil lawsuit by former Navarro College student and cheerleader, Madi Lane.

According to the complaint filed in a Dallas court, Lane alleges during her freshman year at Navarro College, she was sexually assaulted by another Navarro Cheer athlete and student.ย According to the document, Laneโs suit involves Navarro College, Navarro Cheer coach Monica Aldama, athletic director Michael Lander and Title IX coordinator Elizabeth Pillans, as well as the alleged abuser Salvatore โSalvoโ Amico.ย
The court document issues allegations that a sexual assault occurred in the plaintiffโs dorm room in the fall of 2021. No formal charges were filed at the Navarro County Courthouse in 2021 pertaining to this case.
A statement was released by Navarro College to The NavCo Chronicle on Wednesday.ย
โNavarro College is aware of the lawsuit that was filed last week against the College and several College employees. The College denies any allegations of wrongdoing and is prepared to vigorously defend itself in court.โ
The statement continues, โThe safety and welfare of students is always of utmost priority. Navarro College prohibits sexual harassment and sexual misconduct against all students and is deeply committed to providing an educational environment free from sex discrimination and sexual assault. The College has established robust policies and procedures for reporting, investigating, and responding to all allegations of sexual harassment and sexual assault. Navarro College takes every report of sexual harassment and sexual assault seriously and acts swiftly to provide an appropriate response to protect all students.โย
ย Navarro College does not have further comment because this case is now in active litigation.
