By Taylor Kaiser

The Navarro County Commissioners Court convened on December 22nd, addressing a range of business items that included public comment, departmental updates, and several approvals across county operations.
One public comment was made by Dan Hunt, a candidate for Texas House District 8. Although he is not a resident of Navarro County, Hunt told the court he intends to stay engaged with local issues and make himself available to understand concerns and contribute to workable solutions as the springtime election approaches.
The court took no action on the county burn ban and approved the November 2025 tax collection report.
Representatives from Guardian Glass were present along with Economic Development Director John Boswell as the court approved a tax abatement for the company’s rededication to Navarro County. Commissioners also approved a request from Planning and Zoning to purchase a Chevrolet Silverado and renewed the county’s annual AC cybersecurity contract.
Indigent Health Care staff attended the meeting to request approval for a new Versalink C415 printer and to present updates to the Navarro County Indigent Health Care policy and procedures. A representative explained, “We have a work requirement that we give our patients. It’s a mandatory thing within our program that we are trying to enforce.” She added, “We are also having a behavioral policy that we are enforcing into our program to protect us as the employees of the program.”
According to the Navarro County website, “The Indigent Health Care Program is medical coverage for people who are not Medicaid eligible, with income less than 21% the Federal Poverty Level. Property, bank accounts and other countable resources must be within limits established by state rules.” The court approved the program updates as presented.
Additional routine or procedural items approved by the court included:
- Declaring IT equipment as salvage
- Approving Lyte Fiber LLC utility easements in NE CR 0120, NE CR 2050, and NE CR 2010 in Precinct 1
- Approving a special road bond for BDPU Solar in Precinct 4
- Approving an Atmos Energy request to cross SE CR 0040 in Precinct 4
