The Navarro County District Attorneyโs Office gathered on the front steps of the Navarro County Courthouse last week in support of Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

District Attorney Will Thompson stated, โDomestic violence is a serious crime, often unseen and misunderstood. It is fundamentally about control, with abusers frequently isolating and intimidating their victims, making escape seem impossible. Violent episodes are often followed by a period of de-escalation or โmaking up,โ but the relationship typically returns to violence, and the severity tends to escalate. We have experienced fatalities resulting from domestic violence in Navarro County, which is why we treat these crimes with the utmost seriousness.โ
He continued, โThe District Attorneyโs office has a dedicated Victim Assistance Coordinator who can provide various forms of assistance to victims. We can assist with protective orders to prohibit any contact with an abuser, offer financial assistance for costs associated with relocating away from an abuser, and provide access to counseling services. Victims have a right to be informed about the legal process, to be notified about each court setting in the abuserโs case, and to have input on how the case is handled. Additionally, financial assistance is available to help with rent, utilities, food, and household necessities.
The Victim Assistance Coordinator can be reached at (903) 875-3309.
