A jury in the Navarro County Court at Law on Friday found Ian Tolliver guilty of possession with intent to deliver cocaine and methamphetamine, possession of fentanyl, and possession of a firearm by a felon.
The jury did not return a guilty verdict on the charge of possession of marijuana between four ounces and five pounds.
According to testimony presented during trial, the case stems from an incident in February 2025 at Silverlake Apartments. Officers Rodriguez and Sgt. Nanny responded to a reported disturbance. As they approached the area, officers observed a woman standing in front of a vehicle driven by Tolliver and waving frantically to get their attention.
Testimony indicated that as Tolliver began to drive away, the woman leaned against the vehicle in an apparent attempt to prevent him from leaving before falling to the pavement. Tolliver continued driving and attempted to maneuver around police units before Sgt. Nanny blocked his path.
While Officer Rodriguez spoke with the woman, Sgt. Nanny approached Tolliverโs vehicle and testified that he immediately detected a strong odor of marijuana.
A search of the vehicle revealed 4.4 grams of methamphetamine, 7.5 grams of cocaine, two fentanyl pills, and two large bags of marijuana. The substances were later confirmed through laboratory testing. Officers also located a loaded 9 mm pistol in the vehicle.
Court records show Tolliver had previously been convicted of a felony drug charge in the same court in 2017.
During trial, the defense challenged the officersโ testimony and argued that Tolliverโs rights had been violated. The jury ultimately rejected those arguments and returned guilty verdicts on the charges presented, with the exception of the marijuana charge.
Following the verdict, Tolliver elected to have the judge assess punishment rather than the jury. The court ordered a pre-sentencing investigation report before sentencing is determined. A sentencing date has not yet been set.
In a statement following the verdict, District Attorney Will Thompson commended the officers and prosecutors involved in the case.
โI want to commend and thank Sgt. Nanny and Officer Rodriguez for their work on the investigation last year and for trial this week,โ Thompson said. โThe case was prosecuted by our office, and we will continue to vigorously prosecute those who profit from selling drugs that do so much harm in our community.โ
The case was prosecuted by District Attorney Will Thompson and Assistant District Attorney Jennifer Weaver.
NavCo Chronicle will continue to follow this case and will provide updates when a sentencing date is set and a sentence is handed down.
