Long-time local Corsicana Oil City Iron Works, Inc. awarded Small Employer of the Year by Texas Workforce Solutions for North Central Texas at the 26th Annual Awards of Excellence held on January 25th, 2023, at The Hurst Conference Center.
According to Eric R. Meyers, President, “Oil City Iron Works is in our 137th year of business.”

ty region. Six organizations / businesses received the WSNCT Award of Excellence in the Partner of the Year category during the Annual Awards of Excellence event held on January 25th, 2023, in Hurst, Texas.”
This year’s awards luncheon included presentation by Phedra Redifer, Executive Director For NCTWS, Texas Workforce Commission Commissioner Representing Employers, Aaron Demerson, WSNCT Chair and Mayor of Prosper, David Bristol, and WSNCT Past Chair, Roger Harris. Also in attendance, Mike Eastland, Executive Director for North Central Texas Council of Governments, Texas Workforce Commission Executive Director, Ed Serna, as well as several elected officials, community partners, college representatives, and business representatives from across the fourteen counties.
Counties included in the region are: Collin, Denton, Ellis, Erath, Hood, Hunt, Johnson, Kaufman, Navarro, Palo Pinto, Parker, Rockwall, Somervell, and Wise County.

McKinney Economic Development Corporation – Economic Development Partner of the Year
Credit Union of Texas – Large Employer of the Year
Oil City Iron Works, Inc. – Small Employer of the Year
The Small Employer of the Year Award honors a small private-sector employer whose efforts and initiatives have an extraordinary effect on the state of Texas, workers, other employers, and the communities in which the employer does business. This award honors a small business (fewer than five hundred employees) that is a customer of the workforce system and that has created or used innovative approaches to best support the mission of the Texas workforce system to help ensure Texas remains competitive in the global economy. This employer takes initiatives that have a positive effect on current workers, future workers, and/or workers with challenges that may make transitioning into the workforce difficult. Initiatives include workforce development and job creation, community involvement, activities with students, schools, colleges, training providers, and workforce education or development programs.
The WSNCT Award of Excellence recognizes the dedication and impact of those who work with and on behalf of the organization, including business partners, economic development organizations, educational institutions and community organizations throughout the 14-county area served by WSNCT.
