Dottie Barnes, of Frost spoke up in Monday’s meeting of the Navarro County Commissioner’s Court regarding the possible return to paper ballots.
Navarro County Elections Administrator Allie Thomas stated in a telephone interview with NavCo, “It could be an option to change back to paper ballots, however paper ballots would complicate election night results as well as cost the county more money. The efficiency of the ballot machines have simplified election night.”
Thomas informed the commissioner’s on Monday that she would research the possibility of returning back to paper ballots.
Ultimately the decision would have to go through Commissioner’s Court if the Texas Secretary of State Supported the decision.
Also discussed and approved at Monday’s meeting was the 50% tax abatement for Tremco CPG Manufacturing Corporation.
The abatement in question would allow the corporation to expand their already established plant, located on Easy Highway 31. The two-part abatement would allow an tax abatement for a period of ten years. The expansion would create 80 new jobs in the county under the first part of the abatement.
Navarro College is expected to consider the tax abatement at the Navarro College Board of Trustees meeting in April.
