Blooming Grove citizens gathered as a parade was held on honoring Navarro County Vietnam Veterans on Saturday, ending at Garrison Park in downtown Blooming Grove.
Navarro County Vietnam Veterans that were mentioned during the ceremony were: John Robinson, David Mesker, Kenneth Southard, Ronald Hollingsworth, Rodney Bancroft, Donny Scott, Darrell Northern, Phillip Story, Gerald Clore, Vernon Strebeck, Danny Mahone, Paul Borsellino, Isadore Karnavek, John Hatchel, Louis Lovett, and Don Moore.
The Navarro County Sheriff’s Office Color Guard presented the colors for the event and the featured speaker was John Cabano, retired US Marine and Navarro County Justice of the Peace.
The local chapter of the Vietnam Veterans of America #1009, also known as Navarro Rifles, also presented the winner of this year’s scholarship was Jocelyn Cobb, the granddaughter of former chapter president Vernon Strebeck.
Cobb received a $2,000 college scholarship at the event. Joselyn has earned 60 credits at Navarro College and holds a 4.0 average. She will attend Baylor University in the fall.
