During the Rice City Council meeting on August 14, 2025:
The meeting opened with a joint session alongside the Planning and Zoning Commission to consider and deliberate on the lane abandonment/replat in Tiera Del Sol. Both the Planning and Zoning Commission and the Rice City Council approved the proposal.
Following that, the council discussed and approved updates to the Reserve Officer policy. A reserve officer is a member of a military or law enforcement organization who serves part-time or on a limited basis, often balancing their duties with another job or commitments. The approved updates specify that reserve officers must serve a minimum of 16 hours per month to retain their status, and the total number of reserve officers cannot exceed half the number of full-time officers.
The next meeting will be a special session scheduled for September 18, 2025.
Other issues discussed were:
- Approval for the EDC to purchase land next to their current one
- Approval of the 2020-2021 audit
- Approval of Tristine Slayton to the EDC board
- Approval of the proposed 2025-2026 budget
