Sergeant Don Covey proudly served the Kerens Police Department for 13 years, and officially retired on August 10, 2023. Kerens Police Department and City of Kerens hosted a retirement party in his honor at the KESA building in downtown Kerens. Don started in law enforcement, over 28 years ago in Tool, TX, before coming to Kerens.
During the retirement gathering, Chief Ivey presented Don with a plaque, commemorating his years of loyal and dedicated service to the community of Kerens. Don gave a short but moving speech, during which he recounted highlights of his career, which included the people of the community that he served, and how it has been his pleasure to serve as a law enforcement officer. He promised not to forget anyone, and to still greet everyone as he is out and about among the community. Don is known around town, for more than just his coffee making skills, and citizens had nothing but high praise and positive things to say about him as a person and an officer of the law (even those who were on the receiving end of a speeding ticket!)
Don has been an asset to the Kerens Police Department, and he will surely be missed. We wish Don the best in his well-earned retirement, thank you for your service to our community!
