On Wednesday evening, Corsicana Police were dispatched to E MLK Blvd in reference to a welfare check. The caller advised that they observed an adult male put a child in the trunk of a white Honda Civic with a black and white bumper. The vehicle then left the location and was observed traveling southbound on Interstate 45 from the 231-mile marker. Corsicana Police located the vehicle and an investigative stop was conducted on the vehicle at the 226 Mile Marker of I-45 SB.
After opening the trunk of the vehicle, CPD officers observed a Hispanic male juvenile to be laying in the trunk, unbound and appearing nervous. The driver of the vehicle advised that the male in the trunk, was his 13 year old nephew. The driver stated that he and the occupants of the vehicle were heading to Houston from Colorado. Moreno stated that his nephew was in the trunk of the vehicle due to no more available seats for him.
The mother and the children in the vehicle were later transported to Navarro Regional Hospital for evaluation, no charges filed on the mother at this time.
The driver, Alesandro Mata-Moreno was later placed under arrest for Endangering a child Int/Know/Reck/Crim Neg and transported to Navarro County Jail. He is being held on a $25,000.00 bond.
