The annual Jingle Bell Jog organized by Fitness Coordinator Lanette Stewart is about to commence Saturday, December 2nd at 9am. This will be the 31st annual Jingle Bell Jog at the YMCA in Corsicana and consists of two events, the 5K and the 1-mile run. Both runs will start and end at the YMCA. The 1-mile race will award medals to ages 18 and younger, while the 5K awards medals to all ages with an overall male and female winner. This will be the sixth Jingle Bell Jog that Lanette has organized, and her family has participated for the last fifteen years. Five years ago, the original course was modified to make it an official 5K (3.1 miles) for the runners, while the 1-mile race is the original fun route for runners or families that want to walk.
Santa will be available to take pictures this year and a hot cocoa truck will be at the event to warm the participants’ bellies. The event was made to have a fun and festive atmosphere where you can dress up in Elf or Santa hats and even bring your pets. This year’s shirt sponsors include Keathley & Keathley, Winters Oil Partners, Navarro Dental Center, Edward Jones, City Air Systems, The Texas Mattress Factory, Collin St. Bakery, Tex-Scapes, Premier Expenditures, Lucky Kennel, Total Point, WDC, McKee Lumber, Custom T’s, Gilfillan’s, Stewart Toyota, Blanco, Boho Snow, Griffin-Roughton, RAC, AKV, Community National, and the Corsicana Veterinary Clinic.
The YMCA Jingle Bell Jog Program extends a special Thank You to Corsicana Independent School District and the Corsicana ISD Health Coordinator Carla Whitt, for partnering with the YMCA this year. The last few years Carla Whitt has developed a competition between the Corsicana campuses and the campus with the highest percentage of staff/student participation in the runs receives the district’s coveted JBJ trophy.
This is an opportunity for the YMCA and CISD to encourage physical fitness in a fun community wide competition. Not only does this bring out the runners who want to push themselves, but it is also for families with strollers and pets that want to enjoy a fun friendly 1-mile walk.
