The suspect was arrested by another agency over the holidays and is currently in jail where he is expected to be for some time. No other safety concerns were reported.
There were three new business voting items presented at Monday’s meeting.
The first was to amend Chapter 6, Health and Sanitation. This includes a small increase in the amount billed for trash pickup. This motion was approved and passed with several council members stating that there was nothing they could do about it.
The second item was to consider the approval of was Maguire’s request for an extension to the exception of Article 8.04 “Offenses and Nuisances” in the Blooming Grove Code of Ordinances. The extension was approved and the new schedule is Monday-Saturday from 6:30am through 6pm.
There was also a motion carried to amend Chapter 13, Utilities, Article 2, Section 13.02.007 Payment plan in case of excessive water usage, in the Blooming Grove Code of Ordinances. This removed the need for the city council to review these cases as they arise.
Cynthia Baumgartner and Misti Hutchinson attended the meeting to give an emotional presentation in favor of a fund raiser to build a statue at the elementary school playground in memory of Casen Sparks.
“Casen was a fun-loving kid who unexpectedly passed away 2021,” Cynthia stated. Ideas cover all activities Casen would have appreciated including a car show, carnival, cook-off, auction, and a family friendly street dance. While the planning is still in the beginning stages, the date for the fundraiser has tentatively been set for March 14th of this year.
Mayor, Ashley Mahone, ensured them that they had the support of the city and to keep them updated on what they may need.
There was a brief discussion over the proposal from Maguire to paint the city’s name on the water tower, but the decision was made that they would seek a better option to have the name repainted.
