Corsicana Police Chief Robert Johnson responded to a circulating social media post, which was completely inaccurate.
The press release stated, “Unfortunately, an individual who did not have the facts chose to fill in the blanks with their own version of events that are not even close to reality.”
The cell phone image was shot from some distance away and shows a man lying on the sidewalk with three officers nearby.
The facts according to the press release are:
- At 3:48 AM, Corsicana Police Officers viewed a man lying on the sidewalk. Contact was made and he stated that he just had a seizure.
- Officers immediately requested an ambulance.
- The individual needed to lie down while awaiting medical care.
- Medics arrive at 3:53 AM, evaluated the patient and transported them to Navarro Regional Hospital
- He was treated and released 2 hours later.
Chief Johnson stated, “Officers remained on scene solely to ensure the individual’s safety, until medical personnel could take over. We appreciate our community seeking clarification directly from official sources.”
In the age of immediate ‘news’, it is important to remember that what appears to be is not always what actually happened.
