According to a press release issued today, CPD Officers responded to a call referencing an accident involving injuries on July 8th around 5 pm, located near the rail grade crossing in the 2000 Blk of E. Powell Pike Rd.
The press release stated – “A female caller, identified as the victim, 27, contacted CPD dispatch via 911 and advised that she had been struck by a train and was bleeding from her legs. Upon arrival, officers located and immediately began administering first aid to the victim who was still laying on the train crossing with life threatening injuries to her lower extremities. One leg was amputated at the hip and the other was severely damaged.”
CPD Officer Tommy Ordonez  immediately applied a tourniquet and administered first aid in an effort to stop further loss of blood. The air ambulance was not in service at the time and the victim was transported by Corsicana Fire and Rescue personnel by ground ambulance to Baylor hospital in Dallas where she was listed as critical condition.
Corsicana Police Chief Robert Johnson stated, “Railroad personnel advised that the train had been backed up and pulled forward repeatedly as they were unloading other railway cars. All evidence at the scene indicates that the victim stepped between the cars as she was walking to her residence at a nearby apartment complex and the train pulled forward during the loading/offloading of the railway cars and struck the victim.”
Chief Johnson continued, “Contrary to a social media post that stated there was a second victim that was deceased. That information is not true. There was no second victim. Â Incidents have to be investigated and reports have to be processed before the facts can be released to the public. Social media will not dictate when a report is completed or information released.”
