The Freestone County Commissioners Court met Monday morning, approving routine bills and several agenda items during their regular session.
Among the business handled, commissioners accepted two generous donations to support the county’s senior programs. Community National Bank presented a $500 check, and Cat Wall contributed $25,000 to benefit Senior Services and Meals on Wheels.
The court also approved a new printer contract for the Sheriff’s Office and accepted a Language Line translation service for the county jail, approved with a contingency.
In other business, commissioners officially assigned Justice of the Peace, Precinct 1, to John Thorne.
Thorne recently retired after 23 years as a Freestone County game warden and previously served as a wildlife biologist for five years, marking 28 years with Texas Parks and Wildlife. Though he grew up in Van Zandt County, Thorne has called Freestone County home since 1998. He and his wife have been married for 29 years.
“I’m going to continue to serve the people of Freestone County with honesty, fairness, and respect,” Thorne said.
The meeting was live streamed for public viewing, continuing the court’s commitment to transparency in county government.
