By Hannah Barber,
During the Freestone County Commissioners Court meeting held on July 2, 2025, two key items were discussed, with decisions slated for the upcoming meeting on July 16, 2025.
First, the court considered increasing the cost-of-living adjustments for retirees, as there has been no increase since 2009. This adjustment will be addressed as part of the 2026 budget, which is currently under review. The court reviewed personal letters from retirees expressing their perspectives on this matter.
The second item of discussion was a presentation on the TimeClock Plus software for timekeeping services. This system streamlines accurate time tracking with precise calculations capable of managing even the most complex pay rules. It automates payroll calculations for multiple positions and pay rates, including overtime, extra duty hours, and compensatory time. The software also identifies exceptions such as missed punches, long shifts, tardiness, and absences. Flexible options for capturing work hours include electronic timesheets, mobile sign-in/out features with geofencing, and hardware access through badges, fingerprints, or codes. If approved, this system will significantly enhance payroll efficiency, particularly for the police department, by providing reliable and versatile timekeeping solutions.
Freestone County Sheriff Jeremy Shipley stated, “It’s a time saver for the sheriff’s department. We think it’s definitely worth a try. It will save us a lot of time – in our office and the treasurer’s office.”
Currently the FCSO deputies have a paper clock in process.
Sheriff Shipley continued, “We are happy to be the guinea pigs. I think it’s gonna be good for us.”
