Navarro County Historical Society honored Jose Antonio Navarro with a brief wreath laying ceremony on the Texas patriot’s birthday, on Tuesday afternoon on the courthouse grounds at his statue.
Jose Antonio Navarro was born in 1795 in San Antonio, Texas. His history has been preserved through many written avenues. At the breaking out of the Texas revolution he was a Senator in the Mexican Congress from the States of Coahuila and Texas. However, his political views were as a very strong liberalist, and he powerfully favored the principles of the United States. He joined the Texas revolution and was the only native Texan to sign the declaration of independence. Navarro county was named in his honor.
