By Hannah Barber,
During the Kerens City Council meeting held on June 10, 2025, three principal issues were addressed:
First, the council discussed future development plans for the H BUSH ABST TRACT 30A, an approximately 27.833-acre parcel located between 511 S Senter and 935 S Senter. This proposal, initiated at the request of Jon Kendall, envisions the creation of a high-end RV park designed to accommodate guests staying from three months up to a year. The development also includes plans for single-family residential lots, additional housing plots, retail space, and storage facilities. During deliberations, concerns were raised regarding the use of sewer services and potential issues related to abandoned or inoperative RVs.
Second, the council reviewed the Navarro County Central Appraisal District’s proposed budget for the fiscal year ending in 2026. However, they ultimately did not approve the budget, citing concerns over its substantial funding requirements and the potential financial impact on the city’s overall budget.
Third, the council approved updates to the Kerens Police Department policies to ensure ongoing compliance with TCOLE regulations. Chief Ivey highlighted the importance of reviewing procedures related to personnel files and hiring practices to align with current standards and best practices.
These discussions reflect the council’s commitment to responsible planning, fiscal oversight, and maintaining high standards within law enforcement operations.
