The Navarro County Commissioners Court held its first meeting of the new year on Monday, January 12th, conducting a largely routine agenda while addressing several key items affecting county operations.
The meeting opened without public comments, and commissioners quickly moved through standard business, including approving and paying routine bills.
A significant portion of the discussion centered on whether to implement a burn ban due to increasingly dry and windy conditions. Commissioner Eddie Moore noted the growing concern, saying, “Several fires were reported across the county. While some areas received rain last week, many areas, including my house, did not receive a drop.” After discussion, the court voted to enact the burn ban.
Commissioners also approved the updated IRS Standard Mileage Business Rate of $0.725 per mile. Travel reimbursement rates were set at $51.00 for the first and last day of travel and $68.00 for each day in between.
The Treasurer’s Office received approval to open three new accounts with Prosperity Bank: one for the Navarro County District Attorney’s Office, one for unclaimed funds, one for SB 22 and one for the Navarro County Sheriff’s Office. Sheriff Elmer Tanner voiced his support, stating, “I one hundred percent agree with opening an account so it can be tracked.” The Treasurer’s Office explained that separate accounts will simplify end of year reporting.
Additional approvals included Indigent Defense’s purchase of a new printer from Document Solutions and Precinct 4’s purchase of a skid steer from PR Equipment.
Commissioners also approved utility easements in Precincts 1 and 3, including locations along NE CR 0120, NE CR 0190, and NW CR 2060, supporting projects for Lyte Fiber LLC and Tehuacana Creek Solar.
Routine contract approvals included:
• Independent contractor agreements between Texoma HIDTA and Damien Givens (G90 Enterprises LLC), Steve Toth (Spartan Tactical Consulting LLC), Carl G. Stewart (918 Inter LLC), and Raymond Brown (River Road Management and Consulting).
• Renewal of the 9th Amendment Agreement for intelligence analysts and the financial manager between Texoma HIDTA and The Kace Company LLC.
