National Police Week was established in 1962 by President John F. Kennedy to honor the service and sacrifice of America’s law enforcement community. This is a significant time to bring community together to acknowledge and honor the daily dedication of our peace officers.
Last Wednesday, a breakfast was served to show appreciation for our area law enforcement and honor these who have lost their lives in the line of duty. The event was organized by IMPACT Navarro, along with Barbara Kelley, Uncle G’s Food Truck, Navarro College, Aubrey Blaylock, CISD Food Service Manager, Corsicana and Navarro County Chamber of Commerce, Collin Street Bakery, 100 Club of Navarro County, Brookshires, HEB, Living Discipleship Ministry, and K & K BBQ.

Officers were welcomed to sit down and enjoy their breakfast and visit with citizens, or if schedule does not permit, they could take it to go. The breakfast menu included pancakes, potatoes, sausage, eggs, bacon, and burritos, all prepared by volunteer chefs, Gary Crawford, and Kamar Chambers.
Barbara Kelley and Curran Oakley, both of IMPACT Navarro, are past police dispatchers who got together and initially began planning for this important remembrance. Kelley stated, “This is a time to honor those officers whom we have lost, and to thank our police for their service to our community.” Oakley remarked, “We’d like to see this event continue next year!”
IMPACT Navarro County is a program of Drug Prevention Services.
