The Freestone County Commissioners Court discussed increased pay for the Freestone County Sheriff’s Department during a special meeting held January 28, 2026, a move aimed at strengthening recruitment and supporting local law enforcement.
With SB22 grant funding allocated toward deputy salaries, pay for Freestone County deputies is now approximately $62,000 annually, placing the department at a competitive rate with surrounding counties.
Sheriff Jeremy Shipley spoke in support of the increase, expressing sincere gratitude to the Commissioners Court and emphasizing what the change means for his department. He noted that the improved pay allows the Sheriff’s Office to better support its deputies and continue providing strong, reliable service to the community.
The Freestone County Sheriff’s Office is now actively seeking new hires, including individuals nearing completion of law enforcement training as well as experienced, active-duty officers who live near Freestone County and may be considering a transition.
Those interested in joining the Freestone County Sheriff’s Office are encouraged to contact the department directly for more information.
