By Hannah Barber,
During the regular Streetman City Council meeting held on Monday evening, three significant developments took place.
Bids for leasing the clinic side of the Streetman Community Health & Education Building have been received and reviewed. The Streetman City Commissioner’s voted to continue the Streetman Primary Care Clinic, a Navarro Regional Hospital clinic, was awarded the lease, pending the signing of a formal contract.
Navarro Regional Hospital CEO John Manolakis stated, “Providing primary care services in Streetman is not just important – it is essential to the health and wellbeing of the families who live here. We’re proud to continue serving this community and look forward to many more years of compassionate and accessible care.”
The council also approved an amendment to the existing police services contract with the City of Wortham. The revised agreement now includes a provision for a percentage of fines collected to be paid to Wortham—specifically, Streetman will receive 70% of the tickets’ fines, while Wortham will get 30%.
Although this arrangement was initially omitted during recent contract modifications, it has now been reinstated.
Third, during the executive session, discussions centered on the potential use of the Civic Center/Classroom portion of the Streetman Community Health & Education Building.
Legally, the space must be used for its designated purpose. If a business wishes to repurpose the area, a public meeting would be required.
Additionally, there was an inquiry about the possibility of leasing the space for a clinic, which would also necessitate a public meeting beforehand.
It should be noted that Barbara Polk had to leave due to personal reasons, so agenda items 13-17 have been tabled until August 4, 2025.
