Dawson ACE Program receives the Texas A&M AgriLife Healthy School Recognized Campus Status for the 2023-2024 School year
In order to receive the Healthy Recognized Campus banner Dawson ACE had to implement several Healthy School program for the students and teachers during the 2023-2024 school year. While partnering with Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service, Navarro County and working with Family Community Agent, Lorie Stovall and Curriculum Coordinator, Kellie Cope during the 2023-2024 school year Dawson ACE completed the program and received a banner for their hard work.
Dawson students participated in Color Me Healthy, a healthy eating curriculum to incorporate more fruits and vegetables along with exercise and Learn Grow Eat Go, a gardening, nutrition and exercise program. Students and teachers participated in a school wide Walk Across Texas program, an 8 week walking program with the goal to get enough miles to cross over Texas. The teachers also completed a Cooking Well with Friends program where they prep easy healthy meals for the family while learning the importance of nutrition. These programs and more are offered for all Navarro County schools wanting to participate.
The application timeline is Sept. 1st – January 1st  for the 2025 school year and the implementation deadline for the programs is May 1st. We currently have a Walk Across Texas program that began Monday November 4th for adults teams of 8 and individuals. You can join this program by creating a Howdy Health profile and create a team or join as an individual using the information below by November 14th:

What is the Healthy School Recognized Campus designation?
Schools in your area can become a Healthy Recognized School by completing
designated health programs of Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service. Completion
of these programs demonstrates the school’s commitment to support and
encourage healthy lifestyle behaviors for their students, staff, and parents. Schools
are asked to complete an intent to participate which indicates which programs are
of interest. This intent is shared with agents which allows partnerships to be formed
in an effort to create communities of health within counties.
