On Tuesday afternoon, the Navarro County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to a reported burglary in progress at the Corsicana Cowboy Church on Hwy 31 West. A church employee advised NCSO that a male subject in a white SUV was actively striking the door with a blunt object. The caller also informed NCSO she observed the white male throw an object containing a liquid and then smoke outside. During the call, the caller lost sight of the suspect and the vehicle. NCSO deputies arrived within 5 minutes and learned the suspect had left the location. During the investigation NCSO deputies observed the glass door located on the west side of the building was broken and a trash can outside the door was on fire and emitting smoke. The area was immediately secured, and the fire was extinguished using a NCSO issued fire extinguisher. During the initial investigation, deputies observed burn marks on the outside of the church wall, which led them to locating the small burnt bottle of liquid lighter fluid on the ground behind the trash can. Deputies quickly learned the Masonic Lodge, located next to First Baptist Church of Corsicana, had been targeted an hour earlier and was reported to the Corsicana Police Department, who were actively investigating the incident. NCSO deputies and Corsicana Police officers realized through the investigation of both scenes that the suspect description and vehicle information matched. Both departments networked together to identify and locate the suspect. Based on information received and evidence recovered at both locations, NCSO took the suspect into custody just before 4:00 PM. The suspect was arrested on warrants for Arson and Criminal Mischief and remains at the Navarro County Justice Center. The story will be updated as the information is received.
