The small city in Navarro County known as Barry welcomed a new food mart. G&M Foodmart just opened Saturday November 4th at 100 W. Hwy 22 Barry, Texas. The “one stop shop” storefront will bring easy access to home made fresh meals to go, produce, meats, organic homemade sourdough bread from Amy Stephens, salsas, beans, and other grocery needs. The store will also have vendors with dairy, coke products, La Bodega, and in the future plan to expand to household needs like soap, cleaning supplies, and other vendors.

Produce consists of all the basics like tomatoes, onions, carrots, potatoes, apples, limes, Jalapenos, lettuce etc. Meat consists of chicken, ham and ground beef that is purchased for now in Dallas, but plans are to purchase all vegetables, fruit, and meat from local sellers. Meals to go consist of Mexican cuisine like carne asada, enchiladas, tacos, pozole, birria and other meals like chicken salad. Other meals consist of breakfast burritos, quesadillas, American meals like cold sandwiches, biscuits, and gravy, loaded chips, and rolled subs. The owner was in the medical field for fifteen years living in San Diego, California and acquired her certificate for OSHA and HIPAA. She also had a party taco catering business, she learned how to cook Mexican cuisine from her ex-mother-in-law. She fell in love with a Navarro County resident and moved here in May 2023. For two months she considered renting the Barry building that had remained vacant for some time. She already has her Food Handler’s License and all permits and is ready to start her journey in Barry with her now fiancé.
A small area is set up for in-store dining, and they plan to add a coffee area for mornings and expanding the shop. This is a family owned and operated business. This Tuesday they will be serving tacos and Friday November 10th to celebrate Veterans Day; they will be offering a free meal to all Veterans with a Military ID from 12pm to 6pm. They are accepting cash, Venmo, cash app and Zelle while they are waiting on the machine for cards. When it arrives, they will be able to accept card payments.
The Foodmart will be open Tuesday-Friday from 7-7, Saturday from 8-4, and Sunday 8-2. You can find them on Facebook and (619)721-0332 where you can call ahead for your meal order to go.
