The small town of Barry now has a new bake shop called Blessings from Scratch. The shop was created in March 2023 by owner Lexie Sykes. She began her business to make ends meet for her family. She traveled from Kansas City, Missouri to Whitney Texas for a wrestling match one day where she ended up meeting her now husband JT, they both were professional wrestlers. She moved to Barry after falling in love with husband of four years and says, “My husband is my biggest supporter.” They have two daughters ages one and three and are members of the First Baptist Church in Blooming Grove where they help with the nursery and Children’s church each week.

The Bake Shop is known for her homemade specials like the Jalapeno Cheddar bread, banana nut bread, chocolate chip cookies, muffins, and her mother’s sentimental passed down pumpkin bread recipe. All her breads including but not limited to Pumpkin, Banana Nut, Blueberry Lemon, Jalapeno Cheddar and more are $10 each, Sandwich Bread in White or Wheat is $5 per loaf, cookies are $15 per dozen. She loves baking and can even make custom orders. She’s been given recipes to make from customers that want certain baked goods such as Hello Dolly bars (seven-layer cookie bar), Earthquake cakes, and even a Coffee Cake with potatoes; a recipe given to her from the Great Depression Era. She has not made Wedding cakes thus far but has made an Anniversary cake and says she’s up for the task.
The shop does have sugar free options. Her five-year goal would be to open her own local store front when her kids are older. Right now, her family is her main priority since her girls are still young. She has already baked for church events, K&K Creations Grand Opening event, and the monthly Bazaar at the Expo. “It’s a great opportunity to see other creators in the community” Lexie said. She looks forward to doing many more events and receiving orders.
You can reach Blessings from Scratch & owner Lexie Sykes on Facebook or Instagram to make your orders. Go check out her Facebook page, her sweets, treats, and breads are definitely worth purchasing.
